Town of Speedway welcomes new Director of Communications

(Speedway, Ind.) The Town of Speedway announced today that Kelly Buck has been appointed Director of Communications. Buck will serve as the primary contact for media relations and digital communications. She brings both private enterprise and non-profit experience, in addition to her knowledge of communication, social media, digital media, and strategic planning. Buck holds a Bachelor of Arts in Telecommunications from Indiana University and completed her graduate coursework in Communications at The Ohio State University.

“I’m looking forward to working closely with Kelly to strengthen the interactions between the Town of Speedway and its residents and businesses,” said Jacob Blasdel, town manager. “As technology continues to expand and change, so do the ways we can communicate and share important information. Whether we’re responding to emergencies or sharing upcoming community events, there are opportunities for us to use planned and strategic communication to deliver messages to the community. Kelly has joined our team to help us do that.”

Prior to starting with the Town of Speedway, Buck worked in communications in the private sector and started her career in communication at Mental Health America, a non-profit agency in Indianapolis. There, she worked closely with community stakeholders, schools, healthcare professionals, and advocates in the community to build awareness, increase volunteerism, and gain funding for programs geared at educating the community.

These experiences are what fostered Buck’s interest in joining the Town of Speedway. “Working hand in hand with the community and finding ways to communicate our message that reached the people we were serving was very rewarding. I am excited to use my skills and experience to positively impact the Town of Speedway,” stated Buck.

Buck says she feels right at home in Speedway. “I was born and raised in a small town in Indiana,” she said. “There is definitely a special quality in close-knit communities like Speedway. Something about it just makes me feel at home.”
