Another week has flown by in Speedway and we’re crossing the finish line for Summer 2019. The pace hasn’t slowed though, we have fall events happening all over town, development projects continuing, and more news to share. Have a great weekend!

Town News

1. Girls Winter Basketball Registration Ends Soon! Speedway Parks & Recreation is currently taking applications for Winter Basketball League. Girls Basketball comes first, with registration ending on September 28th. Please sign up as soon as possible to guarantee a spot. Boys Basketball will be open for registration until late October. 2. Monday’s (9/23) Town Council Meeting has been cancelled. Town Council will meet again in public session on October 14th, 2019. Follow the Speedway Town Council Meeting event page to stay up to date on meeting notices.
3. Watch the Speedway Candidate Forum Live on October 7th! Speedway Community Television is excited to announce they’ll be live-streaming this year’s Old Speedway City Neighborhood Association event for electoral candidates! You can view the event details on their Facebook page (Speedway Candidate Forum). 3. 10th & Polco Construction Update: Environmental cleanup will begin early next week on the corner of 10th and Polco in Speedway. As discussed during the last Board of Zoning Appeals meeting, the land has been deemed unusable for development purposes, therefore will be cleaned and fenced. No contaminated soil will be removed from the property. Construction on this property will be continuing throughout the next couple months.
4. September 17th the Speedway Police Department hosted a Neighborhood Watch Meeting. These meetings are open to the public and residents are encouraged to attend. At this week’s meeting, Marion County Prosecutor, Terry Curry spoke with residents. You can watch the recap of Curry’s presentation and the Q&A segment with Sgt. Hockemeyer and Officer Howery on the SCTV - Speedway Community Television YouTube Channel.
5. Drew Loftus of Loftus Robinson presented to the Speedway Redevelopment Commission this week. During our public meeting on September 16th, Drew presented information about the future Hilton Tapestry Hotel, which has currently been facing a work stop on Main Street. He discussed the unique property challenges, financial stability, and plans for moving forward.
6. Speedway Water Works is Hiring! Speedway Water Works is currently looking for a Water Operator to perform a variety of skilled, technical, and maintenance work as part of the team at the Town Water Plants. Click here for more information: bit.ly/WaterOperator19
7. The Shred-It event is coming back to Speedway. The Speedway Shred-It Day (Fall 2019) by Speedway PD will be on October 5th. Start preparing your boxes of items to be shredded, medicines to be disposed of, and electronics to recycle.
