Town News

  • Trunk or Treat moved to Sunday: This year’s Speedway Chamber of Commerce sponsored Trunk or Treat event will take place at Speedway High School. Due to weather, it has been moved to Sunday, October 27th. Check out their event page for details: Trunk Or Treat.

  • Town Council will meet Monday, October 28th: The Town Council will be meeting on Monday, October 28th at 7pm in the second regular session of the month of October. The agenda for Monday’s council meeting can be found online: This meeting is public and can be attended in person at town hall, online from SCTV’s YouTube page, or on your local cable access channel.

  • Town Budget - Second Reading: The Town Council will be reviewing the proposed 2020 budgets at the October 28th town council meeting. For copies of the budget ordinances, click here. Each ordinance will be open for public comment during the meeting.

  • Trick or Treat Hours: Trick or Treat hours will be 6pm-8pm in Speedway. Also, if you'd like to register your home for the "teal pumpkin project" which helps kids with allergies join in the festivities, too, please do so at You can also find allergy-friendly treats on their website!

  • McAlister’s Deli Hosts Local Heroes: On the verge of their GRAND OPENING on October 28th, the new McAlister's Deli (Speedway) hosted several local heroes today with free lunch. Thank you for honoring our heroes McAlister’s!

  • Buy your tickets for Peter and the Starcatcher online! Speedway High School's drama department is presenting their 2019 Fall Production: Peter and the Starcatcher. Learn a little about the show and how to get tickets here. Let’s fill the auditorium and support our local young artists.

The SRC met on October 21st, 2019 in public session. Agenda items included project updates and three resolutions. See agenda here:

Dry Run Diversion - Public Forum

The Town of Speedway held a public forum concerning the work that has been done with Dry Run and the Dry Run Diversion project. FEMA has responded to the Letter of Map Revision and much of the area is now outside the flood plain. If you have any questions, please contact Kelly Turner at
Student of the Quarter - October 2019
Each quarter the faculty of Speedway High School takes time to recognize students for their achievements and hard work. The most recent recognition took place on October 12.
Speedway High School Football vs. Triton Central
The Speedway Sparkplugs took on the Triton Central Tigers in the final home game of the season on Friday, October 18.
Speedway Public Library presents Author Phillip Hoose
The Speedway Public Library welcomed author Phillip Hoose to speak about his book entitled: ATTUCKS! Oscar Robertson and the Basketball Team that Awakened a City. Hoose is a Speedway High School Graduate and was a regular at the Meadowood Park basketball courts during its glory days.
