Town News

  • Small Business Saturday: The Town of Speedway and Speedway Chamber of Commerce are asking residents to “Shop Small” as part of the 2020 Speedway Small Business Saturday campaign. Check out the event and the Shop Local Speedway page for great deals from local businesses, just in time for holiday shopping. #ShopSpeedway

  • Coat Donation Drive: A group of citizens have joined together to make sure that our neighbors stay warm this winter. The “Spread the Warmth” campaign is asking for donation of unwanted coats to help others stay warm. Find out more on their Facebook Group: SPEEDWAY CARES or email speedwaycares@gmail.com.

  • Freezing Pipes: Winter is coming! (Wait, maybe it’s already here?) Speedway Water Works reminds residents to keep a faucet dripping to help prevent your pipes from freezing and bursting, which can lead to expensive home damage. Running water moving through the pipeline - even at a trickle - helps prevent pipes from freezing. If you want to just leave one faucet dripping you can, but make sure it’s in the right location. Locate where the water enters your house and turn on a cold water faucet at the other end of the house to allow for water to travel through the entire system.

  • Yardwaste Pickup: Just a friendly reminder that no yardwaste will be picked up on Thanksgiving Day (however, Ray’s will still pick up Trash.) Also, don’t forget yardwaste pickup ends on December 5th, 2019 for the year.

  • Cansgiving Reminder: Speedway High School has started their annual canned food drive! Reach out to SHS student to find out how you can help. The canned food drive will run from November 6th through November 20th. As an extra incentive, if we bring in 1000 cans, Mr. Zartman will receive a pie in the face. If we have 1500 cans- Mr. Claybourn will also get a pie in the face!

  • Town Council Meeting: The Speedway Town Council met in a regular session on Monday, November 11th. Agenda items included approval of an award with Maddox Industrial Group, Resolution 2019-14, and reports from department heads. The agenda is available online: bit.ly/111119TCAgenda or you can watch the video from SCTV here:

  • 10th and Polco: You might have noticed if you have driven by 10th & Polco lately, the lot is looking a lot different. The first phase of the project is complete and crews will be moving onto phase 2, capping the contaminated land.
