Centennial Planning Committee

Meeting Minutes – June 21, 2023   5:30 – 7:00 pm

Attendees: 
John Reller, Christine Meador, Gregg Mauel, Gillian Fletcher, Jamie West, Barb Hellyer, Jason Vansickle, Michelle Lidy, Stephanie Bennett, Austin Templin, Helen Kellam, John Leonard, Robin Levy, Tammy Smith, Terri Sedam

  1. Speedway Unplugged Camp Presentations (5:30 – 6:00 pm)
    1. 4 students presented their ideas for the centennial celebration
      1. Jet from Newby Elementary wants
        1. Chuck E Cheese to replace the Vape store
        2. New Year’s B-day Cake
      2. Shawn from Allison Elementary wants:
        1. a huge fair
        2. massive bounce house
        3. water slides
        4. candy, funnel cakes
        5. free pepperoni pizza, ice cream, and soda
        6. 3 vs 3 basketball tournament
      3. Zoey from Allison Elementary would like:
        1. free snow cones
        2. a big bounce house or trampoline
        3. gifts for everyone (under $20)
        4. decorate the town with black and white balloons
        5. dogs to visits schools to pet
      4. Mary Grace from St. Christopher would like
        1. Decorations made by community to be used to decorate the parks
        2. big celebration & parade down Main St.
        3. art contest for best 100th poster.  The winner would get their poster on a shirt
      5. Anna from Fisher Elementary could not attend the presentation portion, but wants
        1. fun games for kids
        2. food, crafts
        3. shirt design
        4. scavenger hunt
           
  2. Main Meeting (6:00 – 7:00 pm)
    1. There were two new attendees – Helen Kellam & John Leonard
      1. Helen’s family owned Trade Winds Aquariums on Main St. and her husband came up with the name Sparkplugs for the town
      2. John provided a USB drive for the group with lots of great info, there is a park nearby with his family name on it
    2. Attendees discussed events and began filling in details on note cards
      1. Details have been added to the event list
    3. Attendees noted which projects they were interested in supporting
      1. Still need for those who could not attend
        1. Send email to Austin with the events that you would support
    4. Discussed next steps for logo creation
      1. Setup CPC subcommittee
      2. Use Arts Council contacts
