COMMUNITY: Speedway Streets Department Receives New 2022 Hitachi Loader

After 26 years of service, the 1996 John Deere loader is getting a new home!

The Speedway Streets Department recently traded in the 1996 John Deere and took possession of a new 2022 Hitachi loader. A loader is primarily used during winter operations for snow removal and loading sand and salt in preparation of road de-icing, but it is also used to remove trees and large debris from streets when storm damage occurs.

As with any equipment, maintenance is critical for the longevity of its lifecycle. The Speedway Streets Department prides itself on regular maintenance and respectful operation of machinery. Working by these standards extends the life of equipment while also reducing the cost of owning and operating. “Poor maintenance and harshly used equipment can reduce the life of machinery,” said Speedway Streets Commissioner Rob Wetnight. “We focus on maintenance and operation, and we got 26 productive years out of the ’96 John Deere. We hope to get another 26 years of service out of this new Hitachi.”
