NOTICE: New grass seeding for Vinewood Drive, Meadowood Drive, and Fruitdale Avenue area

When the street enhancement project in the Vinewood Drive, Meadowood Drive, and Fruitdale Avenue area was completed in 2021, grass seed was planted to finish the sidewalk and curb areas. Due to the timing of the project completion and the challenges of growing grass during hot dry months, the seeded grass along the sidewalk and curb areas has not grown back at an acceptable level.

Beginning this week, you will see crews planting additional grass seed in these areas. “Early fall is the best time to plant grass seed,” explained Street Commissioner Rob Wetnight. “The soil temperatures are still warm enough for optimum seed germination and the cooler air temperatures are perfect for grass growth.” The plan is to have seed in place to allow the grass to grow before the growing season ends in late October/early November 2022.

These enhancements were part of an $884,772 infrastructure investment that included the above-mentioned street, sidewalk, and curb work. The enhancements were funded by the Community Crossing Grant announced August 2021, along with the remaining 50% being matched with the town’s available Motor Vehicle Highway/Local Roads and Streets funding.
