PRESS RELEASE: Town of Speedway and Speedway Schools Announce Matt Apple as Youth Athletic Director
SPEEDWAY, IN - April 13, 2026 - The Town of Speedway and Speedway Schools are pleased to announce the appointment of Matt Apple as the Youth Athletic Director, a newly created, shared position designed to elevate and expand youth sports opportunities across the community.
This innovative partnership between the Town and Speedway Schools reflects a continued commitment to investing in youth development, strengthening athletic programming, and enhancing the overall student and community experience.
Apple brings more than 21 years of experience in education, coaching, and athletic administration to the role. Most recently, he served as Director of Athletics for the Metropolitan School District of Warren Township, where he oversaw daily athletic operations, coordinated more than 50 events annually, and ensured compliance with district and state standards.
Throughout his career, Apple has demonstrated a strong ability to lead teams, manage complex operations, and build meaningful relationships with students, families, and community stakeholders. His background also includes years as an educator and coach, where he developed mentoring programs and fostered student growth both on and off the field.
“Matt’s experience, leadership, and passion for youth athletics make him an outstanding fit for this role,” said Town Manager Grant Kleinhenz. “This partnership represents an exciting step forward in how we support and grow youth sports in Speedway, and we are confident Matt will play a key role in that effort.”
In this shared position, Apple will work collaboratively with both the Town of Speedway and Speedway Schools to:
• Expand youth sports programming and participation
• Strengthen coordination between school and community athletic initiatives
• Enhance facilities usage and event planning
• Support long-term growth and sustainability of youth athletics in Speedway
Apple expressed enthusiasm about joining the Speedway community in this new capacity.
