PRESS RELEASE: Town of Speedway Resident Academy Program

The Town of Speedway announces a new community program designed to build civic involvement by providing residents with a better understanding of the Town’s operations.

Resident Academy is a five-session program inviting residents to experience an inside look at Town operations. Through a combination of lectures, discussion, and interactive on-site activities, residents will learn about how Town services are provided. Participants will tour Town facilities, learn about the day-to-day responsibilities and operations, gain a greater understanding of the budget process and the Town’s financial standing, and bring forth questions as they meet Town leadership.

“The goal is to create a better-informed population who understands the inner workings of the Town,” said Town Manager Grant Kleinhenz. “We want to create a spark in attendees to get more involved in the growth and development of the community, but first they must understand the Town’s issues, challenges, and goals.”

Resident Academy will begin in January 2023. Applications are being accepted on a first come, first served basis. Class size will be limited to 25 participants. Interested residents may apply until January 16th. Applicants will be notified by January 23rd of their acceptance into the program.

Upon completion of the program, which requires attendance to four out of the five sessions, the Town will recognize the Resident Academy graduates at a Town Council meeting. “Ultimately, we want to encourage more civic involvement,” said Kleinhenz. “Resident Academy will build a productive segway for more residents to make informed differences in their community by becoming more active in local events and serving on Town Boards and Commissions.”
