Litter is everyone’s problem. Over 55 tons. This is the amount of trash and litter that was collected from public spaces by the Speedway Street Department in 2022.

Town of Speedway and the Speedway Solid Waste Management Board have partnered together to host a Speedway Community Cleanup Day. This clean up day is in collaboration with the Keep Indianapolis Beautiful Great Indy Cleanup (GIC) program. GIC is an anti-litter, community-empowering program that encourages the community to work together. GIC provides resources to people who want to lead the charge against heavy litter, illegal dumping, and debris in the public spaces of neighborhoods.

A Speedway Community Cleanup Day is scheduled for Saturday, April 15, 2023!

Cleanup efforts on the April 15 Speedway Community Cleanup Day will focus on multiple Speedway locations including the round-about area, Lynhurst Dr. near the Coca-Cola Bottling lot, I-465 exits, Crawfordsville Rd. medians, landscaping areas in front of Get-Go to Pizza Hut, and the area behind CVS and east of Big Lots. The goal is to have 30 volunteers that will be working as teams on the aforementioned areas.

To participate in the Speedway Community Cleanup Day, meet at the Speedway Municipal Center, located at 5300 Crawfordsville Rd., at 8:45 a.m. Registration for individual volunteers will be processed upon arrival. Onsite parking will be available. Cleanup activities will conclude by 11 a.m. The Speedway Police Department will provide traffic control to ensure a safe cleanup event. Any needed cleanup supplies will be provided – we just need your helping hands.

Groups are also welcome to be a part of the Speedway Community Cleanup Day. If you have a group interested in participating, please call Town of Speedway Executive Assistant Eder Lopez at 317-481-0847 for group registration.

Mark your calendar for April 15 and come join friends and neighbors as we work together to make a visible difference to our community.
