Speedway Redevelopment Commission Takes Procedural Action on 16th & Mickley RFP
SPEEDWAY, IN - February 24, 2026 - The Speedway Redevelopment Commission (SRC) has voted to formally reject the proposal submitted in response to the Request for Proposals (RFP) for the property located at 16th Street and Mickley Avenue.
This action is procedural in nature and does not constitute a dismissal or disapproval of the vision, priorities, or long-term goals presented by the Cunningham Park Neighborhood Association. The SRC expressed appreciation for the time, thoughtfulness, and care demonstrated in the neighborhood’s submission.
By taking this step, the SRC and the Town of Speedway are creating greater flexibility to engage in open dialogue, gather additional information, and fully explore the important questions associated with the future of the site. Moving beyond the formal constraints of the RFP process allows for a more transparent, collaborative, and comprehensive evaluation of all viable options.
The procedural rejection also provides the SRC the opportunity to review the full range of potential end uses for the property while continuing conversations with the neighborhood and other stakeholders. The Commission emphasized that it values the stewardship-focused approach presented and remains committed to ensuring that any future decision reflects the best interests of the Speedway community both now and in the years ahead.
“The SRC’s procedural rejection of the Cunningham Park Neighborhood Association’s RFP proposal is not a dismissal of their RFP response,” said Speedway Economic Development Director Kyle Markley. “It is simply a step that gives both the Town and the Association more flexibility to ask questions, refine ideas, and continue collecting data so we can make an informed decision about the future of this site.”
The Town and the SRC look forward to continued engagement with the Cunningham Park Neighborhood Association and Speedway residents as discussions progress toward a thoughtful and informed path forward.
