Town of Speedway Project Updates: 1300 Block Public Plaza, Borage, and Gateway Signage

Canopy construction at 1300 Block public plaza

Check out this month's Speedway Update video to learn about the 1300 Block Public Plaza, Borage, Gateway signage, Founders Square development, and sidewalk projects.

1300 Block Public Plaza

Have you wondered what the plans are for the outdoor space in the 1300 Block?

The pocket-park space currently under construction at the 1300 Block development will serve as an outdoor public plaza to host community gatherings such as concerts, festivals, and other community events.

Concrete work is in progress and the canopy installation is almost complete as is the electrical installation. Additional work to be done includes a backdrop wall and handrails on the ramp at the back of the stage, concrete work in the main seating areas, light poles surrounding the seating area that will hold strands of white lights crisscrossed across the park as well as landscaping that will be planted in the fall.

The 1300 Block outdoor plaza is projected to be completed by the end of the summer, providing no weather delays or industrial material supply issues.

Borage

It's getting closure!

Construction is moving along at Borage! Equipment is being installed and many of the finishes such as painting and flooring have started and or have been completed. New signage is also coming which will feature the Borage logo.

Landscaping has become a project of its own. Owners Josh Kline and Zoe Taylor are converting the landscaping to focus on native plants, 1,000 in the ground so far, to provide a supportive habitat for the local ecosystem. They are talking with Speedway Garden Club about using the Borage space to educate and communicate about the benefits of a non-traditional lawn.

A fall, 2023 opening is anticipated for Borage, and a hiring process for management positions soon, followed by the support staff, will begin soon. There will be 30 new full-time jobs available.

Gateway Signage

You may have also noticed development at the corner of High School Road and Crawfordsville Road. Demolition work of existing pavement of old Crawfordsville Road in front of Denny’s recently began in site preparation for the Town of Speedway gateway signage and landscaping project. As the forms for the sign base are being built on the northeast corner, the project size looks very impressive. The project will include lighted sign elements, additional landscaping, and walkways to create an inviting feeling to our visitors.

Gateway signs will help visualize a sense of place while also promoting the Town of Speedway and our fantastic community.

Stay tuned for future updates on both of these development projects and more.
