UPDATE 8-15-2023: Plan Commission Forwards Town of Speedway Comprehensive Plan to Town Council for Final Adoption Consideration

A public hearing was held August 14, 2023, to discuss the proposed Town of Speedway Comprehensive Plan and public comments were invited to be heard. At this meeting, the Plan Commission certified that the Town of Speedway Comprehensive Plan was good and that it met the necessary requirements in State Statutes. The Plan Commission forwarded the plan to the Town Council who will be presented with the resolution at the August 28 Town Council meeting so that final adoption may be considered. 

The community is encouraged to preview the proposed Town of Speedway Comprehensive Plan which may be found at the Speedway Municipal Center, the Speedway Public Library, or by viewing the Speedway Comprehensive Plan online copy. Public comments will continue to be received until the August 28 meeting - comments may be submitted via email to the Director of Communications.

The Town of Speedway takes the next steps in developing a Comprehensive Plan that will support the town in achieving and sustaining its vision for the future.

A comprehensive plan is a strategic outline of what the community wants to accomplish in the future. It acts as a guide for the growth and development of Speedway over the next 20 years, providing a foundation for decision-making on such topics as public services and infrastructure management. The planning process began in March 2022, and was funded in part through a $60,000 Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs planning grant.

During the planning process, top priorities were identified, goals were outlined, strategies were discussed, and a community vision was created. To ensure that the planning process incorporated the ideas, concerns, and desires of the community, the planning process included public engagement opportunities in the form of public events, open houses, conversations with community stakeholders, and online surveys. The process was overseen by a Review Team and a Project Team comprised of community leaders, local business owners, healthcare providers, schools, major employers, organizations, and Speedway residents.

A public hearing discussing the proposed Town of Speedway Comprehensive Plan will be held on August 14, 2023, at 6 p.m. with the Town Council sitting as the Plan Commission. Final adoption will be considered at the August 28, 2023, Town Council meeting.
