Public Education and Outreach

The Speedway Fire Department offers educational and training programs providing public awareness and skills.

Fire Apparatus Demonstrations

Designed to offer the public in-person interaction with Speedway Firefighters. This program is highly visible and is requested by both adults and children. The presentations are left to the discretion of the officer in charge; however, certain public safety points are to be included in the demonstrations.

Fire Station Tours
  • A tour of the Speedway Fire Station includes educational presentations about the equipment, gear, and apparatus utilized by firefighters. This is a favorite for schools, scout groups, and church groups.

School Fire Safety

October and November are designated for School Fire Safety. The Speedway Fire Department provides fire safety information to Speedway Elementary Schools students kindergarten through third grade. 

  • A Division of Public Relations Representative provides a .30-minute fire safety presentation, accompanied by a firefighter dressed in gear.  Presentations are designed to accommodate one to three classes at a time. 
  • Following the presentation, students are invited to check out the fire apparatus and interact with the firefighters.

Juvenile Fire Intervention                                                                                                                                                                            

The mission of the Juvenile Fire Intervention program is to identify offenders and/or at-risk children and engage them in fire prevention, educational and intervention services.  Juveniles may be referred to the program voluntarily or via a mandatory court order.
